If you know, you know. Are YOU an Excel nerd? If so (no judgement here!) this is for you. It’s a ray of sunshine for those of you who send SSI Oil and Gas Accounting Software data to Excel and then start manipulating it.
When an SSI report is exported to Excel (like GL04, AP05, AR05, Well History reports galore! and a multitude of other SSI reports) the first line in Excel normally shows the name of the report. Like if you run an AR05 the first line says…duh…AR05! Right? Well, for those just looking at data in Excel, you’re like what’s the big deal? It’s an AR05 and it says so at the top of the Excel file. And when forwarding an Excel version report to someone else…it probably might be very useful.
BUT!! For the Excel nerds out there (you know who you are), when manipulating SSI data in the Excel version ‐ like when doing pivot tables, sorting and sub‐totaling, etc. – you must delete that title line, and it’s bothersome to do so EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
So…SSI has a switch to get rid of that top line. When you generate a report and selecting Excel, there’s an often‐overlooked button in the Excel sub‐dialog screen – Change Spreadsheet Style.
Click it. Then notice ‐ on the upper middle section of THAT sub‐dialog screen ‐ Exclude Title. Within the first section – Title Style ‐ it’s right in the middle. Yup…click that, click OK and you’re done. It’s as easy as that. Run the report out to Excel and voila! No title line.
It’s STICKY. If you prefer the spreadsheet style with no line describing the report generated, set it and forget it. And…it’s one for all and all for one. Set it once and all reports with an Excel option (which is pretty much ALL reports) use the same Spreadsheet Style.
Can you hear the nerds a‐cheering???
It can be changed back and forth on the fly depending on what you’re doing and what you need from your Excel version. It’s nothing more than a couple of simple clicks to change it based on the specific need. EZ!
