Select the JIB invoice format that is the best for your company

In case you didn’t know, SSI has 3, count ‘em, THREE different JIB Presentation formats!
Say WHAT??
It’s not new news, you already know SSI is evolutionary, which means we are always listening to what our clients want and require, and we are constantly making that happen by enhancing your SSI Oil and Gas Accounting Software to accommodate your needs.
JIB presentation is no exception.
First there was one. For JB12 – Owner JIB Invoices there was a single basic format, albeit with several include/exclude options on the dialog screen for customization.
Then there were 2. For our 2020 release and based on client requests, we added a new format. We named the original as Format A, and the new was Format B, and with the same include/exclude options. How clever and imaginative is that? Huh? You might even remember we did an INSIGHTS article in 2021 for the format choices, A and B, explaining each and noting the differences.
Now there are 3! In this evolutionary software world in which we live, that INSIGHTS article is now ancient history. As of the 2024 Release we have added a Format C! Based (OF COURSE!!) on client requests.
So here’s a NEW and IMPROVED INSIGHTS article explaining the differences and how to select the one that’s JUST RIGHT for YOU!
How do you know what format you’re using? Unless you’ve made the conscious effort and changed it, Format A is the way you’ve always done it. And it will show as such in the upper right corner of your JB12 screen.
Format A is portrait/letter orientation. Format A displays the Reference (typically invoice number) for each transaction line, followed by the Description of Expense for each transaction line – so for example: Contract Pumper is listed multiple times.
Also portrait/letter but with a “twist”…ha!
Format B flips (twists) the Reference and Description of Expense location around. For multiple lines with the same Description of Expense category coding (ex: Contract Pumper) the Contract Pumper description is shown once followed by each reference. Doesn’t print Contract Pumper on every single line like Format A. Hence no redundancy of displaying the same coding Description of Expense on each line.
Nothing is lost in the JB12 detail of charges with Format B – it’s just that the same Description of Expense isn’t unnecessarily repeated. Just a bit cleaner.
Similar to Format B but with another “twist”! HaHa.
Big difference (twist) here is that it’s LANDSCAPE orientation. And it includes new columns for GEOLOGICAL & GEOPHYSICAL, along with columns for LEASEHOLD, INTANGIBLE, EQUIPMENT, OPERATING and GRAND TOTAL. Remember? G&G depreciates differently and therefore, since we’re doing landscape, we’ve got some extra real estate to work in the columns. Amounts per each type of expense are columnar rather than as line items like in Format A or B.
Noteworthy – the JB12 prints landscape but the mailer page and summary statement still print portrait to fit our standard mailer window envelopes (insert smart guy emoji here!).

Pick the one you want to try and SAVE. Then run JB11 and JB12 and review the results.
It was easy before and it’s STILL EASY to experiment. Try it all 3 ways and see which one you like the best.
Also noteworthy – from your SSI Joint Interest Billing main menu screen, if you RIGHT CLICK on the JB11 or JB12 button, you will see Sample Reports from the drop down list. Examples of all 3 JIB formats are available for review. BTW – this exercise works for various buttons on other SSI menus. There are other sample reports available as applicable. Right click a menu button to see what’s out there. You’ll see Sample Reports from the drop down as/if available.
